Kakak

My daughter called me, and she sounded really shaken. Over the past two days, she’s been stopped and questioned by the police three times. She hasn’t joined any protests about Gaza—I had advised her not to, for her own safety—but even so, she and her friend have been intimidated on the street. She told me she’s feeling unsafe and deeply unsettled. She doesn’t want to stay there anymore and is seriously considering taking a one-year break to step away from everything. She was also feeling down today. She discovered that Waterstones, the UK's leading bookstore (often considered the British equivalent of Barnes & Noble), has stopped shipping all items to the US due to the new tariffs announced by the newly elected US President. This upset her because she loves their collection, and it was one of her favorite ways to connect with literature from abroad.
