Zionism, a political movement originating in the late 19th century, sought to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine, a region of deep historical and religious significance to the Jewish people. This territory, encompassing present-day Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, is venerated in Jewish tradition as the ancestral land of the Israelites and the location of the ancient Temples. The culmination of Zionist aspirations in 1948 led to the establishment of the State of Israel. However, this development resulted in the displacement of a significant number of Palestinians and has been a central factor in the protracted Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
