Poás Volcano National Park is situated around 20 kilometers to the northeast of La Paz Waterfall Gardens and it usually takes between 40 minutes to an hour to reach there by car. The journey doesn't require a 4WD as the road is well paved, and travelers can enjoy the stunning green landscapes along the way. On our route, we made a stop at a village named Vara Blanca, which is a great spot to purchase fresh strawberries.
The Volcano of Poás is known for possessing the largest volcanic crater in the world. We were lucky enough to witness the crater and its lagoon, a sight that's often obscured by clouds during the rainy season. The crater lake is renowned for its high levels of acidity, with pH values close to 0. The volcano is still active and there was an instance a few years back when the park had to be shut down due to a major eruption.
